Description
Although Gillette double edge safety razors were more popular than the Schick double edge safety razors, many "wet shavers" feel that the Schick Krona was -- and is! -- a better razor. The Schick Krona is a metal razor with a black resin-coated handle. The metal parts of the razor are finished in nickel. This razor is in excellent condition. It has no rust or corrosion. It looks as beautiful today as it did when it came off the Schick assembly line in their Brooklyn, NY factory in the mid 1960's.
An article in the Badger & Blade web site for "wet shaving" says that Schick manufactured its double edge Krona safety razor from 1964 - 1976. Unlike Gillette, Schick did not put any date codes on their razors. But there are certain identifying characteristics about these razors that can give us an approximate date. This razor has a "two ply" center bar, which indicates that it was manufactured before 1967. Also, the metallic TTO knob shows that it was one of the early models of this razor.
Double edge razor blades are readily available in most drug and discount stores as well as on eBay. Yesterday I saw a packet of Gillette Mach 3 razor cartridges selling for .10 for each cartridge. Double edge razor blades sell for between 25 and 50 cents each. And they give a closer, smoother shave than the multi-blade cartridges.
It you are interested in giving "wet shaving" a try, this is the ideal razor for you at a reasonable price.
This razor will definitely turn your morning shave from a daily chore into a pleasant ritual.
