he Unadilla Mining Company operated a number of very successful gold and silver mines in Clear Creek County, Colorado in the late 1800s (within the Dumont and Morris Mining Districts). The Clear Creek Canyon west of Denver was a location with many rich gold and silver mines in the 1880s and 1890s. The Unadilla Mining Company owned the Eagle Mine, Silver Rock Mine, Surprise Mine, Ida Mine and Keith No. 3 Mine. These mines produced gold and silver bearing ores within quartzite. The company also owned and operated mining properties within the Montana Mining District along Clear Creek, in addition to properties near Dumont and Vickers in Clear Creek and Boulder Counties (the Eagle lode, Surprise Lode, and Eaton Lode in the Hiawatha Gulch in the Dumont Mining District)

    Clear Creek Canyon
provided the route of the Colorado Central Railroad. The Colorado Gold Rush began in 1859 and brought with it huge influxes of miners, immigrants and a variety of wealth seekers into the Colorado area known then as the Kansas Territory. The initial boom largely concentrated in the areas at the base of the Rocky Mountains in the valley along Clear Creek, west of Golden in the Idaho Springs area. During the peak of the rush, Idaho Springs was the center of the region's mining district which continued throughout the late nineteenth century, especially as hard rock mining evolved at the famous Argo Gold Mine. Following the gold rush in the 1860s, this region went through a silver mining boom through the end of the century
