    Description

    The First National bank of Douglas County, at Castle Rock. Stock issued January 28, 1921 at Castle Rock, Colorado. Incorporated in the State of Colorado.

    No. 156
    was issued to
    C. A. Clarke
    for five shares of capital stock (0 per share). Hand signed by bank
    president Willard L. Sales
    and cashier. Certificate is about 8” x 10.5.” Black print with orange borders.
    Castle Rock, Colorado (the county seat of Douglas County, named for the prominent rock formation that overlooks the town) was first settled in the 1870s by placer gold prospectors and quarry workers. The early 1900s brought a train depot and a heightened focus on rhyolite extraction, used for many of the buildings in the Castle Rock and Denver areas. Rhyolite quarries were drawing people from all over the world to small town Castle Rock, and the train depot brought the Denver & Rio Grande Railway to the area.
