The Burns-Moore Mining & Tunnel Company, founded in 1902 by Dr. W. C. Abbott, owned numerous mining properties and a mill within the Idaho Springs Mining District in Clear Creek County, Colorado. The company owned 42 patented lode claims, 5 patented placer claims, and a millsite southwest of Idaho Springs along Chicago Creek at an elevation of about 8,500 feet. The water supply for the mining operation was channeled through a 4,000 foot drainage tunnel, starting from Chicago Creek and running to Saxon Mountain. The primary ore was gold with secondary silver, lead and copper.
