Mr. Victor Hugo Emerson, one of the pioneers of the phonograph industry, was born in Ohio and started his business life as a telegraph operator. He became interested in the phonograph in its early days and organized and became president of the United States Phonograph Co., which venture proved a failure. Shortly afterward he became recording supervisor for the Columbia Phonograph Co., where he remained until 1915, when he organized the Emerson Phonograph Co.  He resigned as president of that company in 1922, and with his son Victor H. Emerson, Jr., organized the Kodisk Mfg. Co. Ill health caused his retirement.
